Cycling Safely in Maasai Mara

The number one asked question about our gravel rides in Maasai Mara (also known as The Mara) is whether we cycle near predators.

That is a very valid concern since The Mara is one of the largest game reserves in the world and there is certainly no shortage of wildlife!

First and foremost, Maasai Mara is a habitat of wildlife which means that as cyclists we are guests in their territory and therefore we make sure that we do not disturb the residents’ lifestyle.

That said, our very experienced guides craft routes that do not cross with paths of predators’ or other peaceful but potentially dangerous inhabitants.

We stay in our lane quite literally and figuratively and are responsible visitors who are respectful of the preserve’s safety protocols and laws.

It goes without saying that we have support vehicles nearby with sharp-eyed Maasai guides who would spot potential animal from miles away and advise riders to stop and let it proceed or hop in, a perfect opportunity to sip on a few drinks and snack on local delicacies!
